Case Study
Half a decade of success for one of our longest-standing clients.
If you drive through Bradford in West Yorkshire, you’ll soon spot a large black flag flying high over the industrial city’s listed buildings. This flag has five golden letters printed across its front and is the home to one of the largest Pakistani and Indian luxury clothing brands in the UK. The brand? Janan.
Known for their eye-catching embroidery, vivid colours and fashionable prints, Janan stands proud as one of the most well-known and longest-standing Asian clothing suppliers in the country. From bridal gowns to kidswear, their brand houses over 20 other fashion labels to cater to every personal taste - from glittering salwar kameez for formal events, to modest abayas that are ideal for elegant everyday looks.
We first met the Janan team back in 2017, when both their business and our agency were still in their fledgling years. Janan had been stuck on Magento 1 for a while, selling their stock from a website that was crowded, dull and uninspiring.
“Have you heard of Shopify?” we asked them. They had, and after seeing the capabilities available to their business by replatforming, it was time for the switch. We got their site up and running on Shopify with a clean and simple design, and sales immediately picked up. It was a great move: Janan’s first ever Shopify site could easily be changed around by their team and updated with fresh stock. It was a website that they were happy with for many years as the business went from strength to strength.

Fast forward to the end of 2020 and Janan was ready for another huge surge in growth. Having now hosted their site on Shopify for nearly half a decade, the designs were starting to need a revamp. Whilst we’d kept their site up to date over the years with seasonal campaigns and banner changes, the reasons for a whole new site were three-fold. They needed to increase the conversion rate, to implement the fresh branding and to try out a more advanced theme that would offer increased flexibility on their store. With traffic to the site hitting the millions, Janan’s sales tripled in 2020, despite lockdown limiting people’s need for occasionwear. At this point even marginal gains would have a big impact on profits. We said we’d be on hand to get started when they were ready.
Before we could design a homepage, we waited in the wings for Janan's new branding to be revealed. Janan had hired a branding agency to ensure that their logo and colour scheme was future-proof. New colours were introduced to their branding pack - purple, teal, gold and black - which our designers then used to build elements of the website and keep banners, buttons and badges consistent. The end result was a rich and colourful homepage - a far cry from the dark blacks and greys that dominated the original Janan site back in 2017.
“Look how far they’ve come,” our Head of Creative Elodie said, pulling up an old version of the website from over five years ago. We all stared at the strange layout and crowded logos. It looked like an entirely different business - and made us all the more excited to see what their latest version of the site would look like when it was finished.

As any successful online retailer will know, it’s important to stay ahead of the game. It’s often the smallest of details that can be the difference between a sale and an abandoned cart - and our web team didn’t want to miss a trick with Janan’s new launch. In order to build trust with new and existing visitors, our developers spent a lot of time on the product pages of the site. A “Complete the Look” section pulls in product recommendations based on individual items, drop-downs on each product page provide detailed information about each garment and delivery options, and a handy women’s size guide is easily visible to help women as they shop. Product badges on collection pages allow customers to quickly see which styles are selling out fast and which are most coveted by Janan staff - all of which have already boosted their sales. We set their new site live in spring, just in time for the Eid sales and the results are already paying off.
Having worked with Janan over the years, it’s been incredibly satisfying to help a brand scale so well. When they first came on board all those years ago, our design team was a lot smaller than it is today. These latest designs demonstrate how far both businesses have come - not to mention the capabilities of Shopify itself, which continue to get more advanced every year.
Now years later, Janan’s sales figures show that they make more money in a quarter than their earlier years combined. Whilst growth like this doesn’t happen overnight, it’s been a proud moment for us to revitalise one of our longest-standing clients and watch them reap the biggest rewards yet. And when the time comes for Janan to update their site once more? We’ll be there, as we always have been.
