The Brand.

Toffeln burst onto the shoe scene back in 1978, and has remained a family-run business ever since.

Inspired by the unique Scandinavian clog design, founding father Charlie got inspired to start Toffeln after a trip to Sweden. He noticed the long-term ill-effects of wearing poorly designed footwear at work, and decided to devote his efforts to creating a shoe brand that would be fully compliant and suitable for healthcare professionals on their feet all day.

After collaborating with leading biomechanical researchers, the first Toffeln shoe design was born. The Toffeln team set up their Bristol headquarters, and for the next few decades both scientists and designers worked closely to build a portfolio of shoe designs. Nowadays, Toffeln are renowned for their lightweight, ergonomic Swedish-inspired shoes. Back in 2019 they had a new sub-brand in the pipeline, and so were on the hunt for a partner who could bring this new product into the spotlight.

The Problem.

Toffeln stepped into the Kubix office because they needed a new website for their upcoming changes to the business. They were looking to launch a sub-brand - Toffeln Smart Sole - and needed a visual online store that would appeal to their target market of healthcare workers; nurses and doctors on their feet all day who need long-lasting support.

The Toffeln website was built in Laravel at the time - a custom build that was costing the business a lot of money to maintain and wasn’t as user-friendly as they wanted. Business owner Charlie had found us on the Shopify Experts directory and thought we were the best fit for their brand. After a Discovery Session in our boardroom with our designers and their business owners, our website design for a whole new Shopify store got underway.

“Kubix have taken our website to the next level. Their technical expertise and ‘can do’ attitude meant that the website was built exactly as we needed it, and their knowledge of digital advertising means that our web sales see constant growth. A pleasure to work with.” - Harvey, Toffeln

The Vision.

The longer Toffeln worked with our Kubix team, the more they opened up about problems they were having on the marketing side of their business. Toffeln was already working closely with another agency, but found that the more they pushed for additional SEO and PPC work, the more their current agency were upping the contracts until it was no longer profitable. Digital marketing was mentioned to our team, and so we decided to push the new website out and then focus on bringing their latest creation -  namely the Toffeln Soft Sole - to market.

The Solution.

Although the Toffeln team were happy to use a Shopify theme for their website, they had various custom changes that they wanted coding up so as to give their customers the most seamless shopping experience possible. The development on the site soon became a big job for our Kubix developers, with huge changes required on the product pages particularly. Our developers integrated a 360° image spinner so that buyers could get the most accurate preview of their purchases before they added them to their baskets. As our team are Cloudinary partners, we also used Cloudinary to replace nearly every image on the website with powerful image optimisations and perfect image resizing. Not only did this prevent images loading with the wrong sizes, it also greatly aided page speed times for the SEO on the site.

As the Toffeln team already had various ads in place which were seeing a good ROAS (return on ad spend), it was important for our marketing team to maintain this ROAS while steadily increasing the amount of money spent on ads. We achieved this and kept them profitable, whilst focusing on their nursing target market with additional ads, email marketing, beautifully designed landing pages and on-going SEO.

Once the Toffeln team had signed up with us for digital marketing for a few months, we were delighted to announce that they’d had their highest grossing quarter to date. Not only was their brand new website scaling up the Google rankings for keywords such as ‘footwear for nurses’, the Toffeln brand was now a well-known player amongst their target market. Their sub-brand Toffeln Smart Sole is now their highest selling product, thanks to the advertisements that we put in place across Facebook, Google and other digital platforms.
