Building a Candy Culture.

For anyone who’s ever set foot in a foreign supermarket, you’ll know that there’s always something special about seeing the eclectic mix of foods, boxes and brands that line the shelves. When setting up her American candy business, Taste of the States owner Rebecca wanted to bring that sense of excitement to her online store. It was a ‘sweet’ idea, and one that quickly paid off. From Lucky Charms to Pop Tarts, Jell-O to Reese’s Cups, Rebecca began to stock up on and import American classics that UK customers would crave. Originally selling from her back bedroom up in County Durham, she spent the early years building an impressive social following and customer base of savvy snackers.

Business was booming, but there was one thing holding it back. The website. Despite already being in the Shopify ecosystem, Rebecca had built the store herself and was getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of structure. Products weren’t filtered correctly, and customers were struggling to find the full range of snacks they wanted. Not an ideal user journey for hungry shoppers!

A Sweet Deal.

Having recently upsized to better manage her influx of orders, Rebecca was in a position where she needed an expert’s help. Enter Kubix: Stage Left. With one glance at her old website, we knew that our team could help sweeten things up a bit with a beautiful theme customisation.

After a discussion with Rebecca about what she wanted her new store to look and feel like, she decided that Kubix were the right partners for her. Our design team cracked their creative knuckles and got to work. Throughout the web build process, we restructured her site layout and organisation. This included installing a Product Search and Filter application, which allowed customers to filter everything from flavour to type of sweet. We also integrated the new theme with a bespoke app for shipping- a nifty little feature that provides loyal customers with next day delivery all year round once they’ve paid a one-off £9.95 service fee. Perfect for regular candy customers.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice.

It’s now been half a decade since Rebecca first set up Taste of the States, and her business is something to be proud of. Not only do they sell the classic American candy by the bagful, they now stock an impressive range of baking goods, sodas, and snacks from Australia, Canada, Europe and beyond. Rebecca has hand-picked over 200 iconic brands from across the world to sell in her store, and is constantly keeping her eye out for new flavours of snacks.

Upon going live, Rebecca delighted our team with the following review:

“One of, if not THE most professional and efficient businesses I have worked with in our five years of trading.  Every aspect of the website design from start to finish was handled with excellent customer service, a positive can-do attitude, and professionalism. Our new website design has everything we asked for, and more, with great suggestions and advice being made and implemented along the way. We have had excellent feedback from customers on our new website, and we are now hoping to work with Kubix for our marketing goals too. Big thanks to Joe, Josh and the rest of the team at Kubix - you have done a brilliant job! 👏”

Blushing? Us? Never!

As Rebecca stated, the next step on the Taste of the States agenda is marketing. With a little bit of Kubix help, Rebecca’s American Dream is becoming a reality.
