For a long time Shopify merchants have struggled to offer their customers more than one discount on a single order. The lack of such a feature has often led to convoluted and needlessly complex workarounds with third party apps, but recently that all changed.

Stack and Combine: An Example

For example, say you’ve got two offer codes for Black Friday: one offering 10% off orders over £100, and another offering 20% off orders over £200. Until recently, a customer could only use one of those offers on their order.

But now, this has changed. While you may well want to restrict offer codes to one order at a time, you now have the ability to combine discounts. So if you’d like customers to be able to use both codes on a single order, and for that extra 20% off to result in a combined 30% discount, now you can make it happen.

Obviously this is just one example, but you can combine multiple discounts of various types, including amount off products, amount off order, buy X get Y, and delivery discounts.

How To Do It Yourself

So enough talking, let’s get down to the discounting. Here’s how to implement the new stack and combine feature on your store:

From your Shopify dashboard, click the “discounts" tab on the left of your browser window.

Next, click the green “create discount” button on the top right.

Now you’ll be presented with the new and improved discount creation page. Scroll down to find the very exciting (and also new) “combinations” section.

There'll you’ll be able to decide which discount types you’d like your new discount to be combined with. Simply click the one you want, and hey presto, you’ve got a combinable discount! The option you choose will be reflected in the summary to the right, and also under the new “combines with'' heading in the main discounts page.

And there you have it. It’s now as simple as that to stack and combine discounts in your Shopify store. With conversions to be made, it’s the time to load up those discounts.
