The Brand.

Hoodrich: a bold brand with humble beginnings. Business owner Jay set up Hoodrich back in 2014 selling his signature menswear, and said that his own experiences immediately set the tone for the streetwear brand.

“The very name ‘Hoodrich’ derives from someone living beyond their means - a person overspending on luxuries, not necessities,” Jay says. “I set up my business at the age of 20. Our strapline is ‘From Nothing to Something’, and this was very true for my own story. I only had £200 in the bank when I decided to set up my own business, but I knew I wanted to grow. So I started with an idea. That idea became a logo, and the logo became a brand.”

Jay began by designing items of clothing in his living room and giving them to his friends. Before long he’d started selling the Hoodrich brand from the back of his van. But word spread, and the business grew. In less than a year, the Hoodrich name had spread across the streets of Birmingham; men walking with the logo splashed across their fronts. And in the years that followed, the brand became one of the most recognisable in the city. The big question in the Hoodrich team was: What next?

The Problem.

Jay first engaged with Kubix via an email enquiry, and immediately we were hooked. Jay didn’t have a specific problem with his business. Figures were doing well. Profits were increasing. Hoodrich hoodies and t-shirts were spotted across Birmingham. The problem was that they didn’t know how to go global. They were selling in other cities across the UK, but they simply weren’t sure how best to step up their game and break into the European market and beyond. Selling in the US had been mentioned, but no strategy had been introduced. Growth was on the cards, and Jay was hoping that Kubix would be the ones to take them there.

After a phone call and a meeting, the Kubix challenge for Hoodrich growth was set. They were already selling on Shopify, but it was our chance to really make a difference to their sales figures and get them onto Shopify Plus.

Our Kubix marketing team dived straight into the Hoodrich account and analysed all of their old social ads. The return on ad spend (ROAS) was great, yet the team was spending very little, considering the size of the brand. Hoodrich clothing was also being sold at Foot Asylum, but customers could receive 10% off if they shopped there instead of going to the Hoodrich site directly. A few paid media strategy meetings later, and our team got to work.

“Working with Kubix has been a pleasure! I completely trust them with all aspects that they handle and can count on them for amazing results. It's been refreshing coming across a group of talented individuals who are extremely passionate about growing my brand as much as me. I love the fact that Kubix have a really efficient and professional approach to how they work with us and pride themselves on proving they can get results.” - Jay, Hoodrich Founder

The Solution.

The first stages of the Hoodrich marketing campaign involved small but significant changes to their advertising strategy. Kubix introduced remarketing across both Google and Facebook for customers who had abandoned their carts, and set up Hoodrich on Google Shopping for the first time. We then built up the customer database to set up email campaigns with exclusive offers and seasonal discounts, and results started to grow.

Another challenge our Kubix team faced was stealing back the market share for Hoodrich’s audience. As Hoodrich clothing was being sold across different stores, we had to find a way to bring customers directly back to their original Shopify store.

In order to entice back the customer base, we set up new discounts and offers that slightly surpassed their external sellers. Combined with ongoing website support, the full turnkey marketing strategy soon started to pay off.

The latest step? It was time to upgrade Hoodrich to Shopify Plus. Joining the likes of Nike, Gymshark and other pioneering fashion brands, we moved Hoodrich up to Shopify’s elite, becoming one of just 5,300 Shopify Plus stores across the world. This upgrade allowed for automated theme changes, endless customisation and a sophisticated system that could cope with Hoodrich’s new influx of stock.

The Growth Plan.

Both of Kubix’s marketing and web development teams have continued to work closely with Jay for their next phases of growth for the Hoodrich brand. Trust was always going to be an important factor for Jay and his team. He needed an agency that he felt he could bounce off - who were invested in the growth of Hoodrich and would do all they could to enhance the image of the brand.

Now having worked with the Kubix team for 5 years and counting, we have enjoyed Hoodrich's success as much as they have. Now that Shopify Plus allows for the creation of various sub-domains, we've helped them launch in various countries including the US, as well as develop a women's range and launch a new version of the women's site.

Throughout this journey with Jay, we've watched Hoodrich talent like Brand Director Matt join the team, and together we've turned this streetwear brand into one of the most recognisable in the world. With collaborations with the likes of Fumez the Engineer, K-Trap and Netflix's Top Boy, Hoodrich has been spotted on the likes of 50 Cent, Giggs and more. This brand is only going up, and we at Kubix are proud to have helped get them there.
